Hear His Voice Uganda is a non-government organization working with children with hearing impairment and hard of hearing but with cochlear implants in them. Our vision is to empower every child and individual with hearing loss to attain their full potential and live independent and productive lives in the community.
A cochlear implant is a small, complex electronic device that can help to provide a sense of sound to a person who is profoundly deaf or severely hard of hearing. Most parents are afraid of letting their children receive cochlear implants because they are afraid of the outcomes, it is in human nature to get scared of technology and to also assume there will be trouble after the implants, the good news is we are here to teach you all you need to know, we have worked with parents and children of all years, we have specialists who can explain anything you need to know about how it works.
At first, before joining Hear His Voice Uganda, I thought I can only teach a deaf child by use of sign language which is possible to learn but has limits, I was so surprised at how children with hearing loss hear my words and they respond, it so exciting to know that through cochlear and good training plus therapy which is offered here at the center a parent can sit home relaxed while his or her child moves out without an interpreter to help tell those who don’t know sign language what he or she is saying, the children that we bring up though born with a disability they can live normal lives, they can express themselves freely knowing they can speak now and forever, it also saves them from suffering stigma from the society.
I can write a whole book about what I have learned and seen at Hear His Voice Uganda but allow me to leave you with questions to be answered if you come to the center remember it doesn’t matter how you raise your child, what matters is how your child benefits from what you offer, if you have a deaf child or hard of hearing child, the best thing you can offer them is hearing, that is allowing them to get the implants and trust me we shall walk all the way through with you because the truth is it’s not easy but it’s a beautiful one and with fruitful results.
